Nicaragua Geisha

Geisha is one of the most celebrated varieties in the coffee world — an Ethiopian strain brought to Central America over the last two decades, prized for its delicate floral and tea-like character. This particular Geisha comes from the San Felipe lot at La Hammonia, better known as Selva Negra, a historic estate in Matagalpa, Nicaragua with over 100 years of coffee history. Founded by German immigrants in the 1880s, Selva Negra is one of the most ecologically and socially responsible farms in Central America.

The San Felipe parcel sits at the highest altitude on the farm — steep, remote, and planted with Geisha trees selected for strong performance at elevation. What makes this coffee remarkable beyond its pedigree is the price: Selva Negra has kept it accessible, a rarity for a true Geisha. At light to medium roast, the cup is floral and citric with a delicate sweetness and a distinctive black tea spice that reveals the Geisha character. Medium roast is the sweet spot for most — defined tea-like spice with crisp floral notes upfront. Darker roasts are still very drinkable but lose some of the variety's unique complexity.
